Activity 1: Counting and multiples 1 to 1000
These activities may be used, in pairs, or as a class activity on a range of digital devices such as an interactive whiteboard, laptop, i-pad, etc.
Purpose
The purpose of these activities is to help students to recognise the whole numbers from 1 to 1000, to visualise and communicate patterns in numbers, and to develop a range of counting strategies with whole numbers.
Activities
Using the hundreds board (with offset), students could be asked to:
- Complete the tasks in Level 1 activity 1 with the hundreds board using numbers from 1 to 1000.

- Select all the multiples of 5 except for 5 and describe the pattern.
- Select all the multiples of 6. Ask, “What do you notice and why do you already have these?”
- Select all the multiples of 7 except for 7
- Select all the multiples of 8. Ask, “What do you notice and why do you already have these?”
