Activity 4: 100 board puzzle

This game is designed to be played independently in pairs, but could be used as a class activity using an interactive whiteboard with teacher versus class or in two teams on a range of digital devices such as an interactive whiteboard, laptop, i-pad, etc.

Purpose

The purpose of this game is to recognise and order numbers from 1 to 100, and to understand the size of a number.

Activities

Using the puzzle board, play this game as follows:

  1. A 5 by 5 square is randomly selected and outlined on the hundreds board. This is the playing area. One tile is randomly placed within the playing area.
  2. Two players are given 12 tiles each and take turns to choose and drag a tile into position on the playing board.
  3. If the tile is not placed correctly, it will return to the pile and the next student has a turn.
  4. The first student to place all their tiles correctly on the board wins.
